Spanish police crush \”spiritual retreat\” selling hallucinogenic drugs

Spanish authorities bust a “spiritual retreat” that sold hallucinogens

Police dismantled a cult operating from a villa in Pedreguer. The group offered multi‑day stays for over 1,000 euros and supplied clients with ayahuasca, San Pedro cactus and the frog venom Kambo.

How the retreats worked

  • The villa hosted up to twenty participants at a time.
  • Six staff members guided the “astral journeys”.
  • Guests enjoyed a setting with mattresses on the floor, water bottles, tissue boxes and a guitar.

Financial and legal fallout

Police seized 11 litres of ayahuasca, 117 San Pedro plants and several Kambo bottles. The organization generated hundreds of thousands of euros in undeclared income last year and offered a “mystical” experience that attracted clients from around the world.

Arrests and charges

Two men and a woman were arrested for leading the group, while five others were investigated for acting as “spiritual guides”. They face charges of drug trafficking, money laundering and criminal association.

Warnings on substance effects

“The substances can have unpredictable, dangerous effects”, the Guardia Civil fire said, underscoring the risk of the retreat’s hallucinogenic offerings.
