Op-Ed: A Palestinian State Is Still Unrecognized—Why No Action Is Being Taken

Pulfacing the Feasibility of a Palestinian State

Recognition remains a token that offers nothing beyond a symbolic headline. The idea that a Palestinian state can simply arise by drawing a line around rubble is a misconception that risks bringing further suffering.

Why “Recognition” Falls Short

  • There is no foundational finance or infrastructure to sustain governance.
  • A legitimate economy does not exist, leaving the territory isolated.
  • Existing borders are remnants of colonial miscalculations produced by careless officials.

Historical Context

Palestine never possessed sovereignty. As part of the Ottoman Empire until World War I, it later became a British “mandate” that offered little to no protection for its people. A state that truly respects Palestinian self‑determination must be led by Palestinians.

Building a Sustainable Palestinian State

  1. Self‑Reliance – The state must stand on its own without external puppeteering.
  2. Neutral Borders – Secure, credible borders free from conflict escalation.
  3. Economic Base – Homegrown revenue streams, not international charity.
  4. Trade & Commerce – An open market that attracts investment.
  5. Infrastructure – Reliable power, water, and food distribution networks.
  6. Education & Training – Modern systems that equip a workforce for progress.
Practical Implementation

Merely announcing recognition fails to deliver tangible benefits. Without concrete support—financial, human, and logistical—a proclaimed state will remain a theoretical concept that does not alleviate the daily hardships endured by displaced families.

Path to Peace

A Palestinian state properly established and managed could serve as the cornerstone for a lasting peace. Yet the West and the broader Middle East talk loudly about acknowledgment while offering little substantive assistance.

The ongoing conflict has already killed thousands and produced zero progress. The future of an entire people rests on the assumption that sustained effort will replace rhetorical speeches. It is imperative that operations begin immediately, without distraction.

It is inadmissible to disguise this prolonged situation as a tolerable age that still undermines the possibility of a resilient Palestinian state.

“No medals should be awarded for simply affirming the right of a people to exist.” Instead, let actions speak of commitment.
