R&B singer-songwriter and artist Ellis Hall chatted about his new single “I Really Wanna See You Tonight.”

Hall was the former lead singer of the funk and soul band Tower of Power.

‘I Really Wanna See You Tonight’ single

On his new single, Hall remarked, “The new single came out by the diligence of Don Smalls management, and yours truly hearing the song again and getting it mastered by the great master Artist Raymond.”

“I don’t know his last name and then what we did is decide it’s time to put this out so through our determination, we put all the pieces of the puzzle together, promotion, and the rest is history,” he elaborated.

Music and songwriting inspirations

On his music and songwriting inspirations, Hall shared, “Knowing first of all that I am always the vessel all these things come through me and I have the choice to let it come through or to block it out.”

“I can’t say how it inspires or how it comes to me. It just seems to be always there with the flavor of always wanting to lift higher and higher like Jackie Wilson said. And all I can say is my word for joyous ‘Chakalaka’ feeling amen,” he elaborated.

Future plans

Regarding his future plans, he revealed, “Playing for lots of people to get them dancing and if they hold it inside, I ain’t got no dog on insurance so they’re on their own.”

“Just let the feeling in and we all can clap our hands and stomp our feet in rhythm or if we wanna get sideways with extra rhythm that’s out of time it’s okay too as long as we feel it from the very heart and soul of our being,” he elaborated.

Advice for young and emerging artists

For young and aspiring artists, he said, “Play or sing it like you mean it — simple as that. Don’t concentrate on what the notes might be theory wise just let it out again like you mean it.” 

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Hall said, “I miss analog, but I learned as the digital age has come upon us and continues, it all is experimentation that I pray we all get to use to our advantage.”

“Don’t let the digital hang us up as hopefully we never let the analog hang us up. It’s all there to be used in the most positive way; Hallelujah,” he added.

Closing thoughts on the new single

Hall expressed about the new single, “Whether it’s an older song that’s been done before or a newer song that you might’ve created, always come from the inside out rather than the outside in and celebrate it like you wrote it, and people will believe it’s your song.”
