Rawle talks about his new single 'Unconditional' and the digital age\” />
Guyanese-Canadian artist Rawle chatted about his new single “Unconditional” and being a part of the digital age.
How did “Unconditional” come about?
“Unconditional” started as a very personal song inspired by the love I’ve always felt from my mother. I wanted to take that feeling — something pure, selfless, and universal — and translate it into music that anyone could connect to.
Working with Grammy-nominated producer Yonatan Watts and songwriter Andreena Miller helped shape it into something bigger than myself. It became more than just a dedication.
It’s a message of love that speaks across cultures and relationships, whether it’s family, friends, or even humanity as a whole.
What inspires your music and songwriting?
Life and people are my biggest inspirations. I pull from conversations, emotions, and experiences I’ve had in different places around the world — growing up in Guyana and Toronto, and now building in Los Angeles and Atlanta.
I’m inspired by love, resilience, and the idea of leaving something meaningful behind. Sometimes it’s deeply personal, other times it’s about telling a story that needs to be heard.
My goal is always to make music that moves people, whether emotionally, spiritually, or physically on the dance floor.
How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age?
It’s both empowering and challenging. On one hand, technology and streaming platforms give independent artists like me the ability to reach listeners all over the world without waiting for a traditional gatekeeper.
Social media allows us to connect directly with fans and build communities. On the other hand, it means you’re constantly navigating an overwhelming amount of noise and competition.
I see it as an opportunity, if you stay authentic and consistent, the digital age can amplify your voice in ways that weren’t possible before.
What do your plans for the future include?
Right now, I’m focused on rolling out my new EP, Echoes of Rawle, which is paired with a seven-part short film series.
Beyond that, I want to continue pushing boundaries, musically and visually, and expand into global touring.
I’m also building my own record label, RLE Records, to create a platform for other emerging artists.
Ultimately, I see my future as a balance between creating timeless music, telling meaningful stories, and building a legacy that opens doors for others.
What is your advice for young and emerging artists?
Stay true to yourself. In this industry, it’s easy to get lost chasing trends or comparing yourself to others, but your uniqueness is your biggest asset.
Learn the business side as much as the creative side, because ownership matters.
Surround yourself with people who believe in you, and don’t be afraid of setbacks. They’re part of the journey.
Most importantly, create because you love it. If you lead with passion and consistency, opportunities will follow.
What does the word success mean to you?
For me, success is about impact. It’s not just numbers, charts, or awards, though those things are great.
Success means knowing that my music touched someone’s life, gave them hope, or helped them feel seen. It’s about being able to provide for my family, create opportunities for others, and build something that lasts beyond me.
If I can do that while staying true to my art, then I consider that success.
What would you like to tell our readers about your new music?
My new music is an invitation to connect with me on a deeper level. With Echoes of Rawle, I want listeners to feel like they’re stepping into my world.
Each song is a chapter, each visual is a reflection of who I am and what I stand for.
If there’s one thing I’d love people to take away, it’s that love, in all its forms, is powerful, universal, and necessary.
My music is here to remind you of that and hopefully inspire you to live and love more boldly.
