Japanese star sentenced for assault in Hong Kong

Kenshin Kamimura Convicted in Hong Kong

Kenshin Kamimura, 26, a former member of the J‑pop boy group ONE N’ONLY, was found guilty of indecent assault by a Hong Kong court on Wednesday. The artist had been removed from the group shortly after the allegations surfaced.

Case Details

  • The incident occurred in March during a celebratory dinner after a fan meet, when Kamimura harassed an interpreter working for him.
  • The interpreter reported that Kamimura repeatedly touched her thighs despite her objections and invited her to accompany him to the bathroom.
  • Magistrate Peter Yu ruled that the act “clearly shows disrespect for women,” and fined Kamimura HK$15,000 (≈US$1,900).

Public Reaction

Fans queuing outside the courtroom were moved to tears upon learning Kamimura’s conviction. A screenwriter and fan from northern China, Chan, expressed that the trial has damaged the artist’s image and sparked “public outbursts of vitriol.” Despite the conviction, Kamimura, who also acted in the drama “Our Youth”, hugged his court translator upon hearing the fine.

Judge’s Commentary

Judge Yu said Kamimura “received what he deserved.” He added that had the victim remained silent, she would have suffered in silence. The judge emphasized the importance of the victim’s courage in coming forward.
